Key Signature “Entertainment” or “Events”?

KeySignatureEvents

Hi there! Mikayla here.  So I was casually googling Key Signature Entertainment the other day while figuring out what task I should start next when I stumbled across an article about Key Signature that I had never seen before.  It was written by a colleague and close friend of ours back in 2015. I had started my journey with Key Signature in 2017, so I wanted to check it out. Almost immediately, I noticed that they had referred to us as “Key Signature Events” 5 times. Although this was written 4 years ago, it triggered moments that I had noticed in my time with the company where other close friends and CRVA.jpgcolleagues have referred to us as Key Signature Events – during announcements thanking us for our support or sponsorship, and even in print on voting ballots.

Key Signature Entertainment has been in business for 10 year now.  We won the 2019 CRVA Service Provider of the Year award, and our owner, Brandon, recently completed a small business administration certification program. It’s safe to say we’re in a good place, and ready to keep moving forward.  I wanted to know why our colleagues continued to misconceive our name after this many years of establishment in the industry. It’s obviously happening for a reason, considering the number of times people have called us “Key Signature Events.”  Should we be doing something different? Is this something we need to address?

KeySignatureEntertainmentHeist2019_Z84A8959.jpgOur name wasn’t always Key Signature Entertainment, the “Entertainment” portion of the name was added shortly after the company was incorporated for clarity purposes.  People naturally called the company Key Signature Entertainment because that’s all we did at that point; Brandon booked entertainment. After talking about it as a team, we realized that as years went on, Brandon and the other individuals who helped this business grow to what it is, had branded Key Signature as a company of event professionals.

We understand the thought process of event planners, the stress of the job, and the work involved in putting an event together. We understand that they shouldn’t have to worry about the entertainment at an event, so we work hard to make sure they don’t have to. We work so closely with our event professional friends, that we ourselves have become event professionals by association, which makes us a really great asset to planners for any event in need of live music.

I realized in this moment that what I thought was sort of a frustrating misconception, was really a compliment.  Our event planner friends whom we work with most don’t see us as just agents who book live music. They know that we understand their world, and because of that, they trust us. I learned really fast after moving to Charlotte from New York that down here, trust is the most important part of doing business. That’s why we consider the people we work with our KSE Family. I guess in this case, the “E” in KSE can stand for whatever you need it to be – Events or Entertainment!

3 Live Music Ideas for a 4th of July Event

Our motto is Good People, Good Music. We understand that we are in the people business first and the music business second, and we pride ourselves on the relationships that we uphold with our clients and musicians.

1. Bluegrass/Americana

With roots in the Appalachians and pioneers like banjo master Earl Scruggs (a North Carolina native), bluegrass music is a true American art form. Flat Tire Trio embraces this art form with a tasteful twist, and is a great option to explore for a 4th of July event because of their unique and truly American sound. They use their traditional instruments to put a spin on bluegrass, rock, blues and reggae, which reflects the melting pot of American culture.

2. Rock ‘n’ Roll

If your client is interested in something with more youthful energy, U-Phonik is just the right band because of their honest rock ‘n’ roll sound. They specialize in high energy performances, and their electrifying song list covers a wide range of hits from the 1970s to today. The 4th of July is meant to be a party, so why not bring U-Phonik to set things off?

3. Acoustic Guitar

Perhaps acoustic background music is what your clients would prefer. Matt Stratford of Chunky Daddy is a very talented guitar player and a soulful singer at that. He is a great choice for acoustic background music because he can set the mood without being too over-the-top. Matt plays Top 40/variety hits that can reach everyone in the audience without overpowering the event itself.

Memorial Day is an important time to remember those who have fought for our country, and we would like to take a moment to recognize those who have done so. In addition to honoring those who have sacrificed for our freedom, many folks take this time off to appreciate their loved ones. If you are planning a Memorial Day event for your clients to honor this holiday, and need entertainment options, we’ve got you covered.

If you want to your clients to enjoy fun, classic all-American tunes with their friends and family, HC Oakes Band is the band for you.

2. Country

Few things are more American than apple pie and country music. The real-life sisters of Gal Friday Band create an undeniably refreshing take on country music because of their unique sound and catchy three-part harmonies. If your clients want to keep it country, Gal Friday Band is a perfect option to consider.

3. Rock/Alternative

If your client would enjoy something with more of an edgy rock sound with an eclectic song selection, take a look at Todd Johnson & the Revolvers. Todd has a strong, gravelly voice that perfectly matches his alternative rock style, but he also keeps a ton of soul and southern rock hits in his back pocket. On top of that, we love him because he’s one of the funniest and nicest people we know!

3 Live Music Ideas For A Spring/Summer Reception

Our motto is Good People, Good Music. We understand that we are in the people business first and the music business second, and we pride ourselves on the relationships that we uphold with our clients and musicians. Here are 3 live music ideas if you are planning a spring or summer reception!

1. Speakeasy Jazz

Few things are cooler than old-time speakeasy-style music. If your client is looking for a band to play whiskey-soaked tunes that will take their guests back in time to the era of prohibition, then Sidecar Social Club is a perfect option to explore. This multitalented group of musicians also does incredible renditions of Latin, classic R&B, big band and ’50s rock ‘n’ roll music as well as classy originals, so there can always be something different coming right around the corner in Sidecar’s sets.

2. High-Energy Dance Band

Perhaps your client wants their guests to party like it’s 1999 all night long during the reception. KRVE Band is one of Key Signature’s premier party bands, and is an ideal option for creating an atmosphere of unequivocal energy. On top of that, they will often play songs that are not typical of a standard party band, which is perfect for keeping guests’ on their toes.

3. Tropical Get-Away

If your client is planning a beach-themed event, they might want a band that brings vacation vibes. The Party Parrot Band, for example, is a Jimmy Buffett tribute band that is perfect for creating the ultimate beach party, because they live and breathe the island get-away lifestyle when they perform. Party Parrot also has a large repertoire of music in other styles that they can play upon request to reach everyone in the audience.

3 Live Music Ideas For A Spring/Summer Cocktail Hour

Our motto is Good People, Good Music. We understand that we are in the people business first and the music business second, and we pride ourselves on the relationships that we uphold with our clients and musicians. Here are 3 live music ideas if you are planning a spring or summer cocktail hour!

1. Banjo

The electric guitar is perfect for creating a laid-back vibe during your client’s cocktail hour, but have you ever heard the 8-string banjo? It’s not what you think. This unique instrument adds a special twist to a jazzy set of background tunes, and it’s a great conversation piece to say the least.

2. Jazz or Fusion Trio

Having a jazz or fusion trio perform for your client’s cocktail hour is a great option for something a bit more lively than a solo musician. They create a richer sound because there are more instruments, and they can complement any event without overpowering the room.

3. Acoustic Guitar with Vocals

Perhaps your client is not interested in jazz, or they want to hear songs that they know during their cocktail hour. Variety acoustic guitar with vocals is a perfect way to hit all of those points without interfering with conversation in the room.

The Year In Review (So Far)

Whew!

We’ve had a whirlwind past few months here at Key Signature Entertainment! When the weather is warm, we’re on the move planning and producing what seems like an endless stream of concerts and events (which is a great problem to have). Hopefully you’ve had the chance to make it out to a few shows this concert season. We’ve put on so many, from the Freedom Summer Series with local and regional jazz artists, the Stumptown Park Series in downtown Matthews, our weekly Party in the Park series at Romare Bearden Park uptown, and so many more. Just two weekends ago we produced not one but TWO festivals in one weekend! Can you say crazy? Both Matthews Alive and The Bearden Birthday Bash were a huge success this year. We’re lucky to have a great team of people to fall back on and help us work these events, because there are so many moving parts behind the scenes!

In it’s 22nd year, Matthews Alive continues to grow and just get better and better. We had a great lineup of performers this year, including The Legendary Tams, Springsteen Tribute- Bruce in the USA, and Country superstars LITTLE TEXAS. We had three different stages and dozens of performers over the four day festival, and we couldn’t have done it without the amazing team we had helping coordinate all of those performers at once! We had everything from magicians, a hypnotist, a singer-songwriter series, a show choir, and many great local and regional acts covering many genres. A special thanks to all of our friends with The Town of Matthews and Matthews Alive! Here are a few photos from the festival. The Bearden Birthday Bash was also a success, as we along with Mecklenburg County Park & Rec celebrated one full year of programming at this beautiful uptown park. We celebrated for three days from August 29th-August 31st with local and regional jazz artists. Also at the festival were many local artists displaying and selling their pieces, food trucks, roving entertainment including caricatures artists and face painters, and so much more! It was a hot weekend but the crowds didn’t seem to mind the heat and we had great audiences all weekend! A special thanks to our friends at Party Reflections, JHE Productions, and all of the Key Signature team that came out to make this festival a success! Even after all of these great shows, event season isn’t over just yet! We’re excited for what is still to come this year, so make sure to keep up with us on Facebook and Twitter to find out what’s coming up next!
